Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohamad Shariff Bin A Hamid, is a Consultant Sports Medicine Specialist under the Sports Medicine Department, University Malaya Medical Centre and an academician in the Sports Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya. Dr Shariff completed his undergraduate MBBS training at the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 1996. He later entered the Master Sports Medicine program at the University Malaya in the year 2000 and graduated in 2004. Dr Shariff was a gazetted as a Sports Medicine Specialist by the Malaysia Ministry of Health in December 2014. In 2015 he joined as an academician in the Sports Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya. Dr Shariff later pursued his postgraduate study focusing on the role of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of hamstring injury at the Sports Centre, University Malaya and obtained his PhD in 2014.

Dr Shariff works very closely with the National Sports Institute of Malaysia in Bukit Jalil. He is a Visiting Consultant in Sports Medicine from 2001 until today. He has vast experience in managing as sports-related injuries. Injuries vary from acute, repetitive or chronic (i.e., ligaments, meniscus, tendon and muscles) injuries to more complex cases (i.e., multi-ligament injuries, joint dislocation/instability, bony/joint deformity). As a Visiting Consultant Sports Medicine at the National Sports Institute, Dr Shariff had the opportunity to work together with Sports Medicine team in treating and managing the Malaysian athletes that require specific needs and high level of precision. For his passion and dedication in working with athletes, Dr Shariff had opportunity to accompany the Malaysia Contingent as one of the team physicians at several international games including the World Wheelchair & Amputees Games Rio 2005, Commonwealth Games Melbourne 2006, Asian Games Incheon 2014 and Asian Games Jakarta 2018.

Dr Shariff is also an International Classifier for para-shooting and para-badminton sports. He was appointed as a classifier at several international para-shooting competition including World Shooting Competition in Sydney 2011, Asean Para-Games Singapore 2015, World Shooting Competition Bangkok 2017 and World Shooting Competition in Al-Ain UAE 2018

Dr Shariff has a particular interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He utilized the machine as one of the points of care, quick and reliable tools in managing his patient in the clinic. He works with Musculoskeletal Radiologist in organizing few musculoskeletal ultrasound workshops at national and international conferences for the past few years. Presenting both nationally and internationally around the topic of sports medicine and rehabilitation, he is also embarking on multi-centre clinical trials on patellofemoral studies and PRP related studies. He has published several scientific publications that are a testimony to his clinical and research interest. In his free time, he is an avid sports enthusiast, especially in table tennis and hiking.
