Dr Lim Wai Kong obtained his MBBS degree from University of Malaya in 1984, Diploma in Sports Medicine from Germany in 1990 and MMed (OM) from the National University of Singapore in 1992. After obtaining his postgraduate training, he worked as a Sports Physician at 94 Hospital Angkatan Tentera in Terendak, Melaka till 2002. He then furthered his career in University Putra Malaysia (UPM) as an Associate Professor lecturing in public health and sports medicine (2002 – 2016). He is a visiting Sports Physician at Institut Sukan Negara, Bukit Jalil since 2002 till today.

Dr Lim has a broad working experience with athletes and active persons. He has been involved in various sports, including badminton, hockey, volleyball, basketball, football etc. He was the doctor for the victorious badminton team that won the Thomas Cup in 1992. He was also involved in providing medical assistance to Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (Ministry of Youth and Sports) in their Scuba Diving programme (Rakan Cergas). Dr Lim was also active in medical covers for SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games as well as the Olympics.

Dr Lim has vast experience treating conservatively sports injuries to the knees, shoulders, hands, ankles and back. He works closely with physiotherapists and rehab specialists in bringing athletes back on their feet. He frequently liaises with orthopaedic surgeons specialising in sports injuries whenever athletes require operative managements.

Dr  Lim is a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association and Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine.
