Dr. Arshad has a clinical background and training in Sport Medicine. He graduated from University of Malaya (M.B.B.S) in 1998. After acquiring his Masters of Sport Medicine from University Malaya in 2007, he works in Arthroscopy and Sport Injury Unit (ASIU) in the Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology in Kuala Lumpur Hospital since 2007 until 2016. Dr. Arshad works very closely with National Sport Institute of Malaysia in Bukit Jalil. He is a Visiting Consultant Sport Medicine since 2014 and later appointed as Medical Director of Sport Medicine Division, at the Institute until today.
Dr. Arshad has vast experience working together with Sports Orthopedics Surgeon in managing traumatic musculoskeletal as well as sports related injuries. The cases varies from acute, repetitive or chronic (ie; ligaments, meniscus, tendon and muscles) injuries until complex cases (ie; multi-ligament injuries, joint dislocation/instability, bony/joint deformity) that requires surgical repair, reconstruction or realignment and later on rehabilitation. Being a Consultant in National Sport Institute, Dr. Arshad has the opportunity to work together with Sport Medicine team in treating and managing the Malaysian athletes that requires specific needs and high level of precision. Due to his is passion and dedication especially working with elite athletes, he has been entrusted by National Sports Institute to lead the medical team as a Chief Medical Officer for SEA Games Myanmar 2013, ASIA Games Incheon 2014, SEA Games Singapore 2015 and Olympic Games Rio 2016.
Dr. Arshad has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound. He has always utilized the machine as one of the point of care, quick and reliable tools in managing his patient in the clinic. He works with Musculoskeletal Radiologist in organizing few musculoskeletal ultrasound workshops at national and international conferences for past few years. He has been a supervisor for University of Malaya Sport Medicine Master Program student and Ministry of Health Malaysia Gazzettement Program for newly qualified Sport Medicine Specialist. Presenting both nationally and internationally around the topic of sports medicine and rehabilitation, he is also embarking on multi-center clinical trials on patellofemoral studies and PRP related studies. He has co-authored scientific publications that are a testimony to his clinical and research interest. In his free time he is an avid sports enthusiast especially badminton, table tennis and EMS based exercise, loves superbike riding and hiking.
